Fie Carelsen
5th of April, 1890 - 21st of July, 1975
Sophia de Jong, was a Dutch actress born in Amsterdam. Fie's mother Cécile Carelsen became a part of the theatre when she was thirty. That's why Fie grew up around theatre folk, when Fie was three she got her first role. Carelsen was married to Jean-Louisse Pissuise, from 1913 - 1920, and was his second wife. Pissuise was a famous cabaret artist.

In 1932, in the year of her 25th jubilee, she played the lead role of Mata Hari.

Fie Carelsen had a jewish mom, and during the Second World War when many actors needed to go into hiding, Fie and her mother Cécile needed to report to the Population Register. There Fie heard for the first time, that she was a child of actor Frits Bouwman sr. And therefore she was half Jewish. We still don't know if this is actually true, or that her mother did this to protect her daughter from deportation.

When Carelsen died she wanted to be buried in the same grave as Jean-Louisse Pissuise, and this happened in her death in 1975.

In many cities streets are named after Fie Carelsen. Such as a Fie Carelsenstreet.
