Jenny van Maerlant

21st of August, 1912 - 23rd of April, 1972

Jenny  van Maerlant was born in Delft. After the HBS (which was a sort of High School) she was getting her degree to become an pharmacy assistent, in which she succeeded. Later she decided that she wanted to perform on the stage. In 1935 Jenny became a volunteer at the Nieuw Schouwtooneel, she liked this so much she decided to go for a degree in the performance arts. Jenny enrolled herself in the Drama School of Amsterdam. She got her degree in 1939. In 1940 van Maerlant married journalist J.J. van Mechelen. During twenty years she played important roles. Plus you could hear her in several radio plays. Such as De dingen om ons heen, Een gouden band bindt vorst en volk, Het lange kerstdiner, De staatsvijand, Terug naar Bar-sebah, and Vervaldag. In 1955 Jenny played a big role in the first film adaption of Ciske de Rat playing his terrible mother Marie. However after 1959 she was unable to perform on stage, because of illness. Jenny passed away in Amsterdam in 1972.
